When you’re planning to attend a con as a fan, you usually come across the same advice: stay hydrated, download the Mobile App to help you plan ahead, bring cash with you to avoid the ATM lines onsite, don’t forget your camera, and be prepared to walk a lot. The list goes on, but you get the gist.
When the ReedPOP team is working an event, we have a check list, too. Here’s a mini version:
- Did everything make it on the show shipment?
- Where are the autographing tickets?
- Is all the signage in the right location?
- Do we have lanyards for everyone?
- Is there enough water backstage for the guests?
- Are you prepared to walk a lot (and I mean A LOT!)?
There’s so much going on behind the scenes while planning for C2E2, but no matter what the planning is, it involves running. And knowing that, while we're getting into crunch time before and at a show, comfortable shoes and socks are an absolute must. Seriously, proper footwear can mean the difference between making it through a 22 hour day with poise and crawling back to your bed beaten and bruised. A good shoe needs to be rugged, light weight, provide proper support from the arch to the heel, and maintain traction no matter the environment. Bonus points if it's sporting neon colors.
Thankfully the ReedPOP team has managed to find shoes that are both comfortable and stylish.
But it’s not just about shoes.
A few C2E2’s ago, Brian introduced the team to socks made of bamboo. Yes, the stuff pandas eat. Bamboo socks wick away moisture, helping to prevent blisters, and recently they’ve started making them in a ton of colors, so now we can color-coordinate our shoes and socks.
While creepy, it's not inappropriate in a meeting to see someone inch up Lance or Armstrong's pant leg to see what socks they’re rocking that day. Lance and Armstrong tend to wear the best socks year round (except the other day Armstrong was wearing some really boring grey).
And there you have it, our thoughts on shoes and socks. Make sure they're structurally sound, give you support, and keep your toes nice and dry. Beyond that, put the freshest and craziest kicks on our feet.
(PS – Have you ever texted your team the message “Can you send me a pic of your shoes/socks? I'm not a creeper.” I have.)
